When Denied the Right to Vote, Henry Frye Decided to Make History

<p>After allegedly failing a literacy test on his wedding day and being denied the right to register to vote, Henry Frye set out to change his life and make North Carolina history. Frye would eventually become the first black legislator of the 20th century, helping strike down the Jim Crow laws in N.C. He also became the Tar Heel state’s first black Supreme Court Justice and the first black Chief Justice.
