Week 527–The Word–Fr Tony Percy–Community Discourse

The Word–Fr Tony Percy–Community Discourse (This Gospel is from the fourth great teaching discourse in Matthew. There are five great teaching discourses in Matthew, first, the Sermon on the Mount. Then the great missionary discourse when Jesus sends out His apostles. Third, the great parabolic discourse in Chapter 13, a whole lot of parables. Then today we come to this marvellous community teaching about how to live as a Christian community. And finally, there is the eschatological, the end times discourse. Today it's a very interesting discussion about what happens in a believing community of Christians, when things go wrong, when someone is going off track. The issue is, if people are going to profess that they believe in Christ and they have a community rule, then we must try and live that otherwise the consequences can be dire for the community. It finishes beautifully where it says, where two or three gather in my name, there I am present. So, this is a call to profound prayer and spirituality in our communities, something we need in this age of great secularization. We need people to simply come together and pray together and ask God to direct their way of life.)
