<p>On this episode of Vaccine 411……Do It Yourself vaccine kits?&nbsp;Some scientists are giving it a try!</p><p>First, the latest vaccine news from around the world:</p><p>Russia:&nbsp;Russian officials told CNN they have set August 10th as the target date for approval for the COVID-19 vaccine in development by Gamaleya Institute.&nbsp;Critics are concerned about the safety and effectiveness of the potential vaccine.&nbsp;No scientific data has been released.&nbsp;</p><p>United States:&nbsp;New York based Pfizer and German based BioNTech began Phase II/III trials this week with 30,000 participants in the U.S., Argentina, Brazil and Germany.&nbsp;Phase I trials of the mRNA vaccine produced antibodies and T cells to protect against the virus.&nbsp;</p><p>Germany:&nbsp;The German government will split a 750-million-euro grant between BioNTech/Pfizer, Curevac and IDT Biologica to speed up research and development of a potential vaccine.&nbsp;The German Minister for Research cautioned that a vaccine will most likely not be ready until mid-2021.&nbsp;</p><p>United Kingdom:&nbsp;The UK has agreed to purchase 60 million doses of Sanofi and GSK’s potential vaccine.&nbsp;This is their 4th deal and gives them access to 250 million doses for the country.</p> &#10;&nbsp;<br /><hr><p style='color: grey; font - size: 0.75em; '>See <a style='color: grey; ' target='_blank' rel='noopener noreferrer' href='https://acast.com/privacy'>acast.com/privacy</a> for privacy and opt-out information.</p>
