Tribunal into Khmer Rouge’s brutal rule closes after 16 years, upholding 3 convictions

The Khmer Rouge’s four-year rule in Cambodia is estimated to have killed as many as 2 million people. Now, a long tribunal into what happened has wrapped, upholding just three convictions. We discuss what justice looks like, with Youk Chhang, executive director of the Documentation Center of Cambodia and a survivor of the genocide; Robert Petit, the international co-prosecutor for the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia between 2006 and 2009; and Sorpong Peou, a professor in Toronto Metropolitan University’s Department of Politics and Public Administration.
