The Legal Tender Status of the Digital Euro in the EU Area Is a Likely Result

He said that if the European Central Bank continues its efforts to develop a digital currency, the new medium of exchange will have a good chance of becoming legal tender within the EU's borders.</p> <p>Panetta added that the government will conduct an in-depth examination of the venture over the next two years. Nonetheless, the Italian stated that such a move "should not be taken for granted" and that the financial institution should exercise extreme caution.</p> <p>He argued last week that the digital euro will not be "redundant" among alternative currencies because the ECB will strive to make the CBDC cost-effective and usable. The latter is critical since it has the potential to increase general population acceptance. According to the Italian economist, the central bank's digital money will be "attractive enough" to garner public attention.</p> <p>Elvira Nabiullina, the head of Russia's central bank, concurred with Panetta during the event on the design of a central bank digital currency.</p> <p>She recently stated that CBDCs operating under government supervision will be the financial network's future.
