Description

Some days are just really, really sad. What do you do when you're really sad? Well, when I'm sad, I want to be alone for a while. And then I want someone to listen to me. Today, I had a really, really sad encounter. And this individual just needed someone to listen to them. I mean, they got angry, and they got sad. They talked about the bad things that are happening in the world. And they're obviously participating in some of them. But a lot of things that they're talking about, they have no control over once these circumstances get started. And I was noticing how sad he just wasn't wanting to be heard. You and I both have sad moments like that. But here's what's even more valuable than anything else I could have done for him today is I heard him, I listened to to him, I saw him for who he was. I didn't try to fix or give him information that he didn't need. I was just with him. And I watched him walk out of this room, being so much brighter, so much lighter from being able to let go of those things that he's been carrying around for such a long time. And he has a hard time expressing them because no one ever listens to him. Everyone's just telling him what to do. So let's practice listening really well. These days. People just need to be heard.
