The CEO of a cryptocurrency company has become one of the world’s wealthiest billionaires

<p>A cryptocurrency CEO has become one of the world's wealthiest people.</p> <p>Changpeng "CZ" Zhao, the founder of the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, has joined the ranks of the world's top billionaires, with an estimated nett worth of at least $133 billion, according to new Bloomberg Billionaires Index calculations published overnight.</p> <p>Mr Zhao's estimated fortune now rivals that of Oracle founder Larry Ellison and surpasses that of Mukesh Ambani, the Indian tycoon whose fortune has also risen in the last two years.</p> <p>The rise of the Chinese-Canadian entrepreneur exemplifies the rapid accumulation of wealth in the fast-paced world of digital currencies.</p> <p>Other crypto founders profited greatly last year as the value of virtual coins increased, with ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin and Coinbase founder Brian Armstrong both becoming billionaires.</p> <p>Sam Bankman-Fried, CEO of FTX, another cryptocurrency exchange backed by Binance, stated today that there has been a "unprecedented amount of wealth creation in the industry over the last few years."</p> <p>"I think a lot of people are trying to figure out what to do with that," Mr Friedman, a young billionaire himself, said during a virtual onstage discussion at the Asian Financial Forum in Hong Kong.</p> <p>Mr Zhao appeared to acknowledge the distinction in a tweet on Monday.</p> <p>"Don't be concerned about rankings.
