Description
-Per Brett McMurphy of The Action Network, the B1G is considering removing the requirement (which began in 2016) of having each team play a non-conference Power 5 team, as soon as 2024—the year that USC/UCLA join the league AND the playoff is expanded to 12 teams -If the change is made, B1G schools obviously could still schedule games against the Power 5, but it won’t be required. Would you still want your school to schedule a marquee non-conference game or not? -In the B1G’s mind, less losses with weaker schedule > more losses with tougher schedule when it comes to the playoff…are we going to lose the zip of non-conference play in college football? -The B1G schools have non-conference Power 5 games scheduled in advance for the next 3-4 years, but will teams abandon these games and play FCS schools?
