Created and led by singer-songwriter and guitarist <a href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Lee_Pierce'>Jeffrey Lee Pierce</a>, they were notable as one of the first bands in the <a href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punk_rock'>punk rock</a> subculture to incorporate influences from <a href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blues'>blues</a>, <a href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockabilly'>rockabilly</a>, and <a href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Country_music'>country music</a>.</p>
