Yamas are the first limb of yoga in the Ashtanga yoga system.</p> <p> </p> <p align="left">The literal translation of the word Yama in Sanskrit is “restraint”. Religious texts of Hinduism and Jainism outline five yamas.</p> <p align="left"> </p> <p align="left"> These ‘moral vows’ or ‘moral disciplines’ are considered universal teachings that extend far beyond your yoga mat; these are important and auspicious practices that guide us towards how we may live in the world, yet truly they are intended to offer guidance and the spiritual grace of how to act towards our self. </p> <p align="left"> </p> <p align="left">There are five Yamas in ‘The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.’ In today’s episode we dive into the second yama ~ satya ~ or truthfulness.</p> <p align="left"> </p> <p align="left">Satya is a Sanskrit word that is translated as truth. It also refers to a virtue in Indian religions, referring to being truthful in one's thought, speech and action. </p> <p> </p> <p>You practice satya by observing reality without judgment. This one moral discipline is also the path of freedom from all self-induced suffering.</p> <p> </p> <p align="left">The philosophical texts ‘The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali’ constitute the foundations of yoga – not only as a physical practice but a way of living life as a guide to reaching Samadhi – which is a state of bliss.</p> <p align="left"> </p> <p align="left">The five Yamas are a wonderful ‘remembering’ of what allows us to live as our best self and of our greatness.</p> <p align="left"> </p> <p align="left"> </p> Sending you great 💜 love... <p> </p> <p style="text-align:center;">
