On today's episode, we discuss items that will be helpful for you as a new nurse. There are SO many recommendations out there, and so many things you could easily "need," but what tools will actually be useful for you as you start your career? We discuss 12 items I think are beneficial for new nurses to have on hand, especially during orientation.

1. A GOOD stethoscope - MDF (I have the Acoustica XP), Littman (Classic III comes highly recommended), EKO digital (pricey, but a lot of nice features)

2. Supportive shoes - ON running (I have the Cloud Waterproof), Danskos, Clove, BALA

3. Protective gear - anti-fog/blue light blocking goggles (find on Amazon, or Stoggles), Scrub caps (my favorite brand is Equipe athletics)

4. Unit specific resources/reference materials - I love the F.A. Davis Pocket guide (I have the critical care edition), you can also find awesome badge cards on Amazon (I like Badge Guru)

5. Nursing clipboard - I prefer foldable (find on Amazon)

6. Watch - I have a Garmin Fenix 6 which I love, apple watches are also popular

7. Scissors/Trauma shears - find a pocket size on Amazon or badge size on Etsy

8. Small notebook - my favorite brand is TUL notebooks (anything discbound)

9. Retractable pens/sharpies - PILOT acroball fine (found on Amazon)

10. Good penlight - something rechargeable is preferred (I have the COAST Crew A9R)

11. Water bottle/mug - something easily washable. My favorite brands are Hydrojug, Iron Flask, and YETI

12. Compression socks - at least 20-30 mmHg, I like CEP compression socks

**Don't forget to join our FREE Facebook community - The Nursing Co-op Huddle**

I would love to answer ANY questions you have about nursing in general, or hear about areas you are struggling with right now. Message me @ashley_nursingcoop or shoot me an email at thenursingcoop@gmail.com with any questions, feedback, or comments. Happy Nursing!
