Description

The Minister for Tourism has revealed plans for a support scheme for businesses in Clare and other counties struggling due to a decline in tourism footfall. A recent survey carried out by Fáilte Ireland indicates 20% of registered tourism accommodation nationwide is being used for humanitarian purposes, peaking at 33% in Clare. In Budget 2024, €10 million has been allocated for a "comprehensive programme of supports targeted at downstream tourism businesses experiencing particular trading challenges" due to tourism bed stock displacement. Responding to a parliamentary question from Meelick TD Cathal Crowe, Green Party Minister Catherine Martin says she's approached Fáilte Ireland with a view to implementing a scheme to support businesses adversely affected by reduced availability of tourism beds.
