Making Theatre to Overcome Censorship in Cuba

This week's episode is with Cuban theatre maker, Ricardo Sarmiento. At the moment Ricardo lives out of his suitcase, between Berlin and Havana, Cuba, where he was born. He is a theatre maker whose work deals with themes of identity, migration, and the relationship between art and activism. Discovering a love of the theatre as a child, he has come far from his first performance of Pinocchio. Now, he is interested in uncovering topics often neglected by society, using theatre as a tool to speak without censorship. In this episode, you'll hear Ricardo’s story of growing up in a highly politicised environment, how he began to feel like a migrant in his own homeland, how he was introduced to the theatre and the themes he’s currently researching.
