Invest in yourself as a business owner

<p>I&apos;m diving straight into it. Investing in yourself is a tough concept and I&apos;ve struggled with it as a business owner. I&apos;ve also noticed that my clients struggle with it, especially mortgage brokers.</p><p>That&apos;s why I want to talk about it in this solo podcast episode. I&apos;ve spoken about it before on other podcasts and live shows, about why you shouldn&apos;t spend money on things you can&apos;t afford when starting out, and building up cash flow instead. But this time, I want to go deeper and share my thoughts on this topic.</p><p>There are two types of investments: time and money. As a new advisor, you might be time-rich but cash poor. So, instead of paying for a coach, you can consume a lot of content, implement what you learn, and improve your skills as a business owner, marketer, and advisor. Time is a valuable investment, and it&apos;s often overlooked.</p><p>When I first started as a mortgage advisor, I had no clients, so I&apos;d spend my days making content, learning about the industry, and researching. By making videos and sharing my knowledge, I was building my brand and learning at the same time. As my business grew, I had less time for these activities, but it all started with investing time. The same goes for when I became a coach and consultant. It took time and investment to get to where I am now.</p><p>The second type of investment is money, like coaches, courses, and programs. My advice is to think peripherally. Know what your goal is, and invest in peripheral skills that will separate you from your competitors. For example, if you&apos;re a good mortgage broker but want to improve your marketing skills, that&apos;s a peripheral investment that will increase your income and set you apart.
