I'm Throwing My Daughter's First Birthday Party For Me, Not For Her

As I’m planning my daughter’s first birthday party, I’ve gotten a bit of negative feedback. “She’s just a baby, she’s not going to remember this,” is the usual response from anyone who isn’t enthusiastic about watching a baby smash a cake. I’m not stupid — I know that she won’t remember this, but I will — and at this point, to me, that’s what really matters.
