Hit-and-run driver kills police officer in Ondo

<p>An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to the Ondo State Police Command was on Sunday killed by a hit-and-run driver.</p>, <p>The tragic incident occurred in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area of the state, along the busy Benin-Akure highway.</p>, <p>The driver who was reportedly on high speed knocked down the yet-to-be-identified Assistant Superintendent of Police at a checkpoint.</p>, <p>According to sources, the deceased police officer had tried to stop the vehicle but the driver hit him and drove away without stopping.</p>, <p>The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed:</p>, <p>“The driver swerved and hit an ASP and the officer died immediately and the unidentified driver fled the scene immediately the accident occurred.</p>, <p>“The driver, however, was pursued and fortunately for us he (driver) was arrested by the military men at Sobe in Edo State.”</p>, <p>The PPRO added that the body of the deceased police officer has been deposited in the morgue.</p>
