Gospel of Mark - Mark 9:1-9 - Prog 39

Mark chapter 9:1 is the starting point of this lesson of our study in the Gospel of Mark with Dr. John G. Mitchell. Mark, having written that Jesus is identified as the Christ by Peter, and then the Lord’s revelation of His coming death and resurrection, our Lord now takes three of His disciples, Peter, James and John and they go up the mountain, probably Mt. Hermon. Here the Lord Jesus Christ is transfigured before them. Both Elijah and Moses are there speaking with the Lord. Dr. Mitchell makes mention of the fact that the transfiguration is a picture of the coming of Christ in glory at His second coming to reign on earth in His kingdom. He also differentiates this event from the rapture, the coming of the savior for the church.
