Gospel of Mark - Mark 7:1-13 - Prog 32

Jesus confronts the Pharisees whose foolishness was revealed by their holding to the tradition of man made rules and were in effect making the very Word of God of no value at all. We are in Mark 7:1-13. Jesus rebukes these religious rulers for setting aside the very Word of God in order to keep their traditions. Our Lord gives an example of the priority of the Word of God over man made rules as regards one’s responsibility to one’s parents. These rulers were rejecting the Word of God by placing their tradition as the priority of what to believe and how to live in family relationships. The Word of God has the priority of authority in one’s life. It should be placed as priority over man made rules.
