Gospel of Mark - Mark 10:1-9 - Prog 46

<p>Here in Mark 10:1-9, Pharisees question Jesus about divorce. Jesus asks them what did Moses command? They went to Deuteronomy 24, which Moses wrote as a permission not a command. But Jesus refers them to Gen.1 and 2 which Moses also wrote but in the form of a statement Gen.1:27 followed by a command Gen.2:24. Pharisees emphasized divorce. But Jesus emphasized marriage. Dr. Mitchell gives us several scripture references which deal with marriage and divorce. He will speak of the purpose of marriage and love that God originally designed for man and woman. As for divorce, Dr. Mitchell declares that the law of divorce was originally given to the Jews for their protection not to the world.
