Gospel of Luke 19:41-20:8 - Prog 86

In Luke 19:41 Jesus rides into Jerusalem. As He did He begins to weep over it. It is here that the Lord begins to prophesy concerning the upcoming destruction of Jerusalem. This prophecy did not come to pass for another 40 years, 70 A.D., when Roman soldiers came and destroyed both the city and the temple. Following this prediction, our Lord, having entered the city, now enters the temple. Seeing the religious commerce going on in the temple, Jesus admonished the sellers of animal sacrifices. Our Lord quoted Scripture, Isaiah 56:7 “My House shall be a house of prayer”, and goes on to say, ‘but you have made it a den of thieves’. Here again is the Lord’s example of using the Word of God to address another unrighteous situation.
