FG enforces “no work, no pay” policy amid resident doctors’ strike

<p>The Federal Government has ordered the management of federal tertiary hospitals to commence the enforcement of the “no work, no pay” policy against the striking resident doctors.</p>, <p>The directive, contained in a letter signed by the Director of Hospital Services, Andrew Noah, entails withholding regular salaries from doctors who are participating in the ongoing strike.</p>, <p>The directive, issued through the Director of Hospital Services, expresses the government’s dismay at the continuation of the strike despite multiple attempts at resolution.</p>, <p>Noah disclosed that conciliatory meetings involving various stakeholders, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the National Assembly, failed to reach an agreement.</p>, <p>He also stated the government’s commitment to uphold the principles of the “no work, no pay” policy, as previously outlined in circular Ref. No.58598/8.1/II/182 dated June 22, 2016, by the Federal Ministry of Health.</p>, <p>“I am directed to inform you that the Federal Ministry of Health has instituted the policy of “No work, No Pay” against the striking resident doctors in line with circular Ref. No.58598/8.1/II/182 dated June 22, 2016,” Noah said.</p>, <p>Noah, however, directed hospitals to keep a comprehensive attendance register that includes the names of resident doctors who are willing to work despite the strike.</p>, <p>“I am further directed to request you to maintain an attendance register for all residents willing to work and furnish the ministry of such names on a monthly basis.”</p>
