Description

It's feared rising interest rates will push more Clare households in Clare into mortgage arrears. Ministers Helen McEntee and Heather Humphries have announced that the Abhaile scheme, which provides free financial and legal assistance to those in mortgage arrears, will be extended for a further four years. The latest figures show that 48,750 people nationwide are behind on their mortgage payments with just under 40% of these having fallen into arrears within the last two years. Louis Fay of St. Francis Credit Union Ennis says in light of soaring interest rates, the extension of the support scheme is welcome.
