A lot of fringe conspiracy theorist groups have used traditional metaphysics terminology such as “Awakening”, “Ascension”, and meditation symbols in their campaigns. In fact, computer algorithms have yet to make a distinction between a traditional meditation group focusing on personal spiritual awakening/ascension and a Qanon group using the same terms for their group’s political purpose. In Buddhism, we have strong boundaries to not allow conspiracies and fear-mongering to take over our forums. We’ve found a pattern long ago for “near enemies of awakening” in how communities get mixed up into the destructive nature of ego through tribal warfare.
