Equanimity – What is it?

And why is it SO important for your game – Jon Adler

Today we are joined on the Brain Booster with Performance Coach Jon Adler who has worked at all levels of the game from club players to European Tour winners.

Jon is also an accomplished golfer himself and he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our show today.

More importantly he brings a wonderful disarming honestly to our exchange in terms of what CAN and CAN”T be achieved working on the mental aspects of the game.

His own story is extraordinary in particular how he had a game changing experience on a TEN day SILENT MEDITATION retreat

His journey began in 2001 as a coach to business owners and professionals. When he stopped playing football and started to play more golf.

Jon was heavily influenced by Timothy Gallwey’s book The Inner Game of Golf.

So I wondered if I could combine what I had learned in coaching business people with this new understanding of the Inner Game of Golf. I began to coach a friend at my local golf club. I am not a swing coach. My interest is in how we can develop the mind for better performance.

He also spent time with the late golf psychologist Jos Vanstiphout on the European Tour.

As Jon says:

“The understanding of your mind is available to anybody. You do not need to be a certain standard of golfer to understand your mind, play better golf and improve your focus and concentration. The same universal principles apply to us all.”

In today’s show we discuss:

The principles of equanimity

Being able to accept golf and life as it IS not as we would want it to be

Beginners mind – How to look through a very clear lens

True principles of acceptance – what it is and more importantly what it isn’t

Craving and aversion

Wanting a result too much or being fearful of an outcome

The experience of the YIPS – what is actually going on

The pathway to a yips recovery
<p
