
Driver jailed three months for defrauding employer

<p>An Area Court in Jos on Friday sentenced a 44-year-old man, Aminu Mohammed, to three months’ imprisonment for defrauding his employer of N600,000.</p>, <p>The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the judge, Shawumi Bokkos, sentenced Mohammed after he pleaded guilty to fraud and begged the court for leniency.</p>, <p>Bokkos, however, gave him an option of N10,000 fine and ordered him to pay N500,000 as compensation to the complainant, Mr Idris Danjuma, failure of which would attract six months’ imprisonment.</p>, <p>Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported to the police on February 26 by Danjuma.</p>, <p>Gokwat said the driver transported goods from Kano to Lagos and was to remit N600,000 to Danjuma, but deliberately converted the sum for personal use.</p>, <p>The prosecutor said during police investigation, Muhammed confessed to the crime, adding that N50,000 was recovered from him.</p>
