DR Congo opens up bidding on controversial oil blocks

Despite warnings from enviromental groups that drilling in peatlands and forests could amplify global warming, on Thursday DR Congo opened an auction of exploration licences for 30 oil and gas blocks. And elsewhere in the country, an uneasy calm returned to the streets after violent protests on Wednesday.
