Dieterich graduated from Yale University in New Haven, CT and received his Doctorate of Medicine from New York University of Medicine in NY. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Bellevue Hospital Center in New York, NY where he was also a fellow in the Division of Gastroenterology. He became Clinical Assistant Professor of medicine and then a Clinical Professor of Medicine, both at the New York University.
