<p>"Son, your ego is writing cheques your body can't cash"</p> <p><br> <br> We're on a mission to help one million people RISE by 2030 - join the movement at <a href="http://www.myrise.co.uk/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.myrise.co.uk</a></p> <p><br></p> <p>Who recognises the line?</p> <p>I’m calling Jamie or Steve as first responders to this with the answer.</p> <p>Both big Top Gun fans and regular blog readers.</p> <p>In case that last line didn’t give it away, it’s a line from the 1986 classic film Top Gun.</p> <p>Where the characters Maverick and Goose are being dressed down by ‘Stinger’ for their behaviour in training.</p> <p>“Son, your ego is writing cheques your body can’t cash”</p> <p>We’ve all done that though, haven’t we?</p> <p>Thought ourselves capable of something that we were, perhaps, not.</p> <p>Or that, at least, we were unlikely to do.</p> <p>Constantly setting ourselves up for feelings of failure and disappointment by just returning to the same plan we struggled with before.</p> <p>Or worse – setting an even harder one.</p> <p>Not done the 3 workouts a week we would’ve liked for a while?</p> <p>And decided that the answer is to go for 5 this week?</p> <p>Not eaten in calorie maintenance for a while?</p> <p>And decided that the answer is to go for a huge deficit?</p> <p>Hoping that we’ll come good this time.</p> <p>Setting expectations of ourselves that, let’s be honest, we’re unlikely to achieve.</p> <p>Letting our ego getting in the way of setting ourselves up for success.</p> <p>Then bruising it.</p> <p>There’s massive value to the smaller, doable change……….</p> <p>That we do then do………..</p> <p>That we use to build confidence and momentum..</p> <p>The single next workout.</p> <p>The better food choice than we could / would have made.</p> <p>Might not be as ‘sexy’ as the equivalent of eating like a nutritionist and training like an athlete.</p> <p>But the smaller cheques that our body (and mind) can cash…………</p> <p>Will always add up to more than the big ones our ego writes that we can’
