Clare Independent TD Calls For Enhancement Of Rail Services Serving Rural Communities

A Clare Independent TD is calling for the enhancement of rail services in the East of the county. It follows the publication of the Draft All-Island Rail Strategy Review this week, which is aiming to increase the frequency of trains travelling to major urban centres such as Ennis to Dublin to once every two hours. The review also proposes the development of a rail spur at Shannon Airport, however no directive is currently in place to expand capacity at Birdhill Station, which indirectly connects the Killaloe catchment area to the capital via the Ballybrophy line. Scariff Deputy, Michael McNamara says its vital that the needs of people throughout the county are taken into account.
