Description
It's been claimed Gardaí need to be more pro-active in issuing fines and penalty points to deter road crime in Clare. Five road-related deaths have occurred on the county's roads so far this year which is more than half the total from the previous two years combined. However, fewer instances of road-related crime have been recorded in Clare in the eight months to September, with driving without insurance down 36% and speeding down 24%. Lisdoonvarna Fine Gael Councillor Joe Garrihy says when people are penalised, it can encourage them to change their behaviour on the roads.
