Clare Councillor Calls For Urgent Increase In Housing Adaption Grants

A West Clare Councillor claims the lack of financial support for housing adaptions is driving vulnerable people into care facilities. The mobility aid grant currently aims to support applicants with the costs of providing infrastructure such as grab rails, accessible showers, ramps and stair lifts where needed in the home. Although the allocation under the initiative is €6,000, the highest amount cannot be garuanteed in any circumstance as funding is subject to the disposable expenditure of the local authority. However Cross Fine Gael Councillor is calling for central government to pick up the bill to ensure people can remain it their own homes with dignity.
