Description

A Clare Active Retirement Ireland member insists the government need to look beyond "the health issue" to address the real needs of the country's older population. A new survey carried out by the organisation has found almost 94% of respondents would like a designated Commissioner for Ageing and Older People to look after the interests of the growing number of people over 65. Ireland currently has a Minister of State for Older People within the Department of Health but Active Retirement has highlighted the needs of older people that are not health-related. Former Active Retirement Ireland President and Shannon resident Kay Murphy believes a designated commissioner would give voice to older people's concerns.
