The Republican National Convention invited Mark McCloskey to speak after he and his wife Patricia stirred national controversy by brandishing firearms before a Black Lives Matter crowd that broke down his neighborhood gate. McCloskey has donated to both parties over the years, but supports racial justice and police reform, and has represented at least one law client in a case against police brutality.
