Description
A Clare Forester claims it's vital that this county exhaust all avenues to enhance afforestation efforts. The Department of Agriculture's latest forestry statistics report shows that 18% of this county's landmass is now covered in forested areas, with 211 hectares planted last year alone. The EPA, however has targeted an annual national afforestation rate of 8,000 hectares to sequester enough carbon to meet Ireland's climate goals, with just 25% of this total achieved countrywide in 2022. Darragh based forestry former and former Green Party Councillor Brian Meaney says the shortfall poses serious environmental and economic problems.
