Black Teen Health

<p>On this episode I have a conversation with “Dr. Beverly Sheppard who is the Department Chair of Pediatrics at Advantage Care Physicians. We discussed the impact of pediatrics in the African American community and how Black History starts with caring for our children.</p> <p>As head of pediatrics at AdvantageCare Physicians, Dr. Sheppard oversees the care of more than 50,000 children in the NYC area. She manages 40+ pediatricians and their staff throughout New York and puts into practice her strong commitment to family-centric healthcare, especially in communities of color. With nearly 40 years in the medical field, she is a vocal advocate for children and community health, focusing on underserved populations. Deeply attuned to the mistrust held in the healthcare system by communities of color and as a Black woman physician and leader, Dr. Sheppard emphasizes empathy, education and quelling fears and hesitation toward the industry among her patients. Her drive stems from the unique opportunity—and responsibility--of watching patients and families grow over time.
