Baba Ijesha returns to court September 27

<p>The trial of Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, a.ka. Baba Ijesha, for alleged defilement will resume on September 27.</p>, <p>The embattled thespian’s case is before an Ikeja Special Offences Court in Lagos.</p>, <p>The matter, earlier scheduled to continue on Wednesday, was postponed due to the absence of Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo.</p>, <p>Justice Taiwo is attending a Judges’ Retreat, alongside other members of the Lagos State Judiciary.</p>, <p>The new trial date has been communicated to parties to the suit. Baba Ijesha, arraigned on June 24, faces six counts.</p>, <p>The prosecution led by Mrs Olayinka Adeyemi, the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has presented two witnesses.</p>, <p>The first was comedienne, Damilola Adekoya alias Princess, the foster mother of the minor.</p>, <p>The second prosecution witness is the girl. They testified at the last court proceedings on July 27.</p>, <p>Between 2013 and 2014, Baba Ijesha allegedly sexually abused the complainant, then 7 years old, by inserting his car keys into her vagina.</p>, <p>The defendant allegedly placed her on his laps, touched her in a sexual manner and rubbed his penis on her body.</p>, <p>“He also attempted to have sexual intercourse with the complainant by unbuckling his belt and unzipping his trousers after sexually assaulting her,” the DPP told the court.</p>, <p>The offences contravened the provisions of sections 135, 259, 262, 263 and 262 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.</p>
