Men’s sheds are non-profit local organisations that provide a space for social interaction and craftwork. The movement originated in Australia in the 1980s with the aim of improving the health and wellbeing of older men. The Irish Men’s Sheds Association was formed in 2011 two years after the first shed in the country opened in Tipperary. In West Clare, a former national school has received a new lease of life and is home now to the Doonbeg Men’s Shed.
