The adult eagle is mainly brown with a white head and tail. In the 1950s, the bald eagle was at serious risk of becoming extinct. Loss of their natural habitat, hunting, and the use of pesticides that damaged their eggs made caused the population to massively decline. The bird was classified as endangered in the U.S. in 1967. by 2007 the bald eagle was no longer considered threatened and has a healthy population level. They nest near large bodies of open water where abundant food supplies and old-growth trees abound.  you can find bald eagles in most of Canada, Alaska, all of the contiguous United States, and northern Mexico. </p>
