Here I share a question that I am frequently asked from clients and to which contributes to one’s feelings of anxiety and overwhelm. The question: How can I not feel badly about myself/not as good as or ‘less than’ when I look at others who seem to have what I want? </p> <p> </p> <p>Asteya is the Sanskrit word for nonstealing and it reminds us of an important moral code or discipline in which to live by. </p> <p> </p> <p>According to the teachings in the Yoga Sutra (2.37), when we perfect the principle of asteya, riches come to us. </p> <p> </p> <p>Returning back to the original question, we feel badly about ourselves when we judge ourselves as less than and as we look to what others have or do and envy this.</p> <p> </p> <p>We don’t need to envy or take from others – whether in their time, their energy, or to seek attention and approval in order to feel good about ourselves.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>This means that we can be encouraged by the unconditional love and wisdom that resides within us and experience the wholeness of our true self. </p> <p> </p> <p>From this sense of inner fulfillment, you no longer feel ‘less than’ nor badly, rather everything that you see and are in awe of inspires you to more.</p> <p> </p> <p>The teaching of asteya reminds us that everything we need to be fulfilled lies within.</p> <p> </p> <p>The more we give to ourselves, the more we easily and freely want to give.
