AfroBasket: D’Tigress thrash Egypt 83-65, book q’final spot

<p>Champions D’Tigress are through to the quarter-finals of the 2023 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Kigali, Rwanda, after recording their second consecutive victory with a comprehensive 83-65 win over Egypt on Sunday.</p>, <p>D’Tigress, who are aiming for a fourth consecutive continental title, stepped up their chase for a fourth consecutive African title at the BK Arena with a commanding display against the Egyptians, having won their first game against DR Congo 69-35 on Friday.</p>, <p>Amy Okonkwo starred by scoring 29 points and 13 rebounds, scoring all 11 free throws she got in the game to help D’Tigress comfortably book a place in the last eight.</p>, <p>Murjanatu Musa was also brilliant with her 18-point contribution, while Nicole Enabosi registered double figures with 10 points to her name.</p>, <p>The Nigerians won the first two quarters 18-10 and 24-13, but they could not keep up the pace in the third quarter as Egypt emerged tops 19-14 to narrow the gap going into the last quarter.</p>, <p>The fourth quarter was fiercely contested as the North Africans tried hard to get back into the game, but D’Tigress saw off the game by winning the final quarter 27-23 and an overall 83-65 win.</p>, <p>This is a third consecutive victory for Nigeria over Egypt, having also beaten the North Africans in 2015 and 2017.</p>, <p>Nigeria will be in action in the last eight on Thursday August 3, as they await the winners of one of the classification games.</p>, <p>Also, 2015 runners-up Cameroon are through to the quarter-finals.</p>
