Description

Today’s guest, Psychologist and renowned media commentator Dr Michael-Carr Gregg hasn’t seen anything like the rates of anxiety in children and teens in decades of clinical practice. Despite the incredible challenge of anxiety for young people and their families, he assures parents that it is treatable; and that parents play an important role in the process. In this conversation Michael explains anxiety just as he would to a family in his clinic, and shares the steps that work to help anxious young people develop the understanding and tools that work to wind anxiety back. It takes time, but is absolutely possible. He also explains the most powerful predictor of childhood wellbeing and the four tasks critical to healthy child wellbeing and development: Friendship, connecting with school, taking healthy risks and establishing an island of competence, and beginning to separate from their family of origin.

We talk about school refusal, reassurance, graduated exposure, social media, how anxiety is a logic free zone and much more.

Michael Carr-Gregg

Twitter

Scratch a Happy Adult, Find a Socially Connected Childhood

A 32-Year Longitudinal Study of Child and Adolescent Pathways to Well-Being in Adulthood

https://brave4you.psy.uq.edu.au/

https://moodgym.com.au/

Thanks for listening to this episode of “Well, hello anxiety with Dr Jodi Richardson.”

Jo
