60 Seconds: Nothing to Hold on to! Now What?

<p>Hello to you in Lima, Peru!</p><p>Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.</p><p>Maybe like me you’ve asked someone for help and they said: “<i>Tie a knot in the end of your rope and hold on to that.</i>”</p><p>It’s actually good advice. Think about it: with enough rope to tie a knot and enough strength to hold on you'll probably be okay. But what if there’s nothing to hold on to?</p><p>I remember an <a href="https://www.outwardbound.ca/">Outward Bound</a> mountaineering trip high in the Canadian Rockies with 5 other women. In pairs we were climbing up and then rappelling down the sheer face of a vertical mountain cliff. The guides were far above us, out of sight, having anchored the ropes. With fear in her voice my climbing partner cried out: “<i>I can't find anything to hold on to</i>.” Time passed. And then a voice from far above us replied, “<i>Grab it with both hands......</i>” Believe it or not this worked!</p><p><strong>Practical Tip</strong>: When you can’t find anything to hold on to, grab it with both hands.</p><p><i>This is the place to thrive together.
