<div> October 24, 1945, marked the coming into force of the UN Charter, since then the UN Day has been celebrated annually to highlight the achievements and challeng­es of the global community established to safeguard peace from scourges of war, protect human rights, establish the frame­work for international justice and promote economic and social progress. <br> <br> This year’s commemoration of the 78th anniversary of the United Nations coincides with the mid-term implementation of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development and happens at a time of intense debate and reflection on the performance of the Sustainable Development Goals-SDGs and strategies needed to accelerate achievements of the targets in the next seven years. <br> <br> This week Roundtable's Garang Yach delved into the role of the UN in South Sudan. <br> <br> 1.
