23.19: Matthew 12: Jesus - The Hope for all the World!

<p>The Jewish laws of not working on the Sabbath — &nbsp;the day of rest — had gotten out of control. The Jewish leaders of &nbsp;religious law piled more “do nots” on top of the original commandment &nbsp;from God. Jesus here shows how wrong this is. Jews today don’t drive &nbsp;cars on the Sabbath — that’s working. That’s why you see them walking to &nbsp;temple or synagogue on Saturdays. They won’t press elevators buttons. I &nbsp;remember in one apartment building, in New York, on Saturdays, the &nbsp;elevator stopped on every single floor so any Jews riding would not have &nbsp;to press a button.</p> <p>Just to be clear, here’s what the commandment said…</p> <blockquote>&nbsp;“Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9&nbsp;You have six days each week for your ordinary work, 10&nbsp;but &nbsp;the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your &nbsp;God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes &nbsp;you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your &nbsp;livestock, and any foreigners living among you. 11&nbsp;For in six &nbsp;days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in &nbsp;them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord blessed the &nbsp;Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.<br> Exodus 20:8 NLT</blockquote> <p>What God means here is that we are to work for 6 days a week and rest &nbsp;for one day. That is not work for money. Don’t harvest for money. In &nbsp;this chapter, Jesus tells the Pharisees that He is the Lord of the &nbsp;Sabbath.
