1974: SRSG Haysom: The environment needs peace and peace needs environmental action

<div>On the occasion of World Environment Day, the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General is encouraging partnerships between the national government and local communities to rebuild and preserve the country’s environment. <br> <br> Nicholas Haysom says sustained, collective action is needed - led by the government and supported by donors, and regional and international partners, one of which is the United Nations. <br> <br> Mr. Haysom stresses that environmental protection can only take place under the right conditions, one of which includes security.<br> <br> The Special Representative says protecting the country’s diverse flora, fauna, landscapes, and natural resources should be seen as a long-term strategic objective.  <br> <br> Here's the SRSG Haysom's 10" interview with Radio Miraya's Patricia Okoed. </div>
