1688: The Imperial State Crown, Crown Jewells Collection Tower of London

<div>In the lead up to His Majesty King Charles III Coronation on Saturday 6 May 2023 here on RNIB Connect Radio we are going to take a closer look and explore the history of some of the Crown Jewells that are kept at the Tower of London which will be used during King Charles’ Coronation ceremony. <br> <br> RNIB Connect Radio’s Toby Davey was joined by Charles Farris, Public Historian from the Tower of London who specialises in the history of the Crown Jewels to give a bit of history and background to a few of the items that will feature in the Coronation ceremony.<br> <br> For the final item from the Crown Jewells Collection that Charles will be focusing on is what might be described as the jewell in the collection, the Imperial State Crown<br> which was Commissioned for the Coronation of King George VI on 12 May 1937.<br> <br> Charles began his description of the Imperial State crown by starting with the Cullinan II diamond at the front to the Stuart Sapphire at the back with an insight into some of the legends that relate to many of the Jewells along with delving into the history of the crown too.<br> <br> Thee Imperial State Crown will return to the Tower of London after King Charles III Coronation and will feature in a new exhibition of the Crown Jewells which will open to the public later this summer.<br> <br> You can find out more about the Crown Jewells and the Tower of London by visiting -<br> <a href="https://www.hrp.org.uk/tower-of-london/#gs.vqv02d">https://www.hrp.org.uk/tower-of-london/#gs.vqv02d</a><br> <br> <br> Image shows the British Flag.
