She also serves as the Executive Director of the <a href="https://proctor.gse.rutgers.edu/" rel="nofollow">Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute for Leadership, Equity, &amp; Justice</a> as well as the <a href="http://cmsi.gse.rutgers.edu/" rel="nofollow">Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions</a>. Prior to joining the faculty at Rutgers University, she held the Judy &amp; Howard Berkowitz Professor of Education at the <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Pennsylvania" title="University of Pennsylvania">University of Pennsylvania</a> <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Pennsylvania_Graduate_School_of_Education" title="University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education">Graduate School of Education</a> and as the Director of the Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions. She is one of the leading authorities in the country on <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historically_black_colleges_and_universities" title="Historically black colleges and universities">historically black colleges</a> (HBCUs).</p> <p>Gasman is an historian of higher education and served as the vice president of the history and historiography section of the <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Educational_Research_Association" title="American Educ
