Description

Once, I attended a Joyce Meyer meeting where she did a “baptism of the Holy Spirit” and I heard people around me speaking gibberish. They were speaking in “tongues”. That’s one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I have 2 friends who pray in tongues. Sometimes while we’re in a group. The only person who can understand them is God. Which is OK, if that’s their intention. If they wanted the group to understand, there had to be someone else with the gift of interpretation of tongues. Otherwise, the conversation is between the person and God only.

On the other hand, prophesying is when someone speaks the Word of God, the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ. They tell people about the salvation that’s only found through Jesus. This is spoken in a language that the people can understand. English is my first language. Thus, I write and speak in English. I expect that the people all over the world who are reading this blog or listening to the podcast can understand English. I also speak Spanish, when I absolutely have to. Moreover, I’m sure if I encounter someone who needs to hear and understand the Good News of the salvation of Jesus in Spanish, that the Holy Spirit will give me the right words to say. And clearly, that person will understand.

Basically, that’s what Paul is talking about in 1 Corinthians chapter 14. Let’s read it…

Keep readi
