Wisdom from the Abbey–Mother Hilda–I’ve Been Waiting (An ancient Chinese story about a man trudging exhausted under the sun coming across a great oak tree reminds Mother Hilda of God and us. While resting in its shade the man says, “what a happy chance I found you,” but the oak tree replied, it's no chance, I've been waiting for you for 400 years. Mother Hilda says God says that to us again and again and again. He says things like; I've been waiting all your life for today because today I want to show you what kindness really is. Or I've been waiting for you all your life because today I want to give you something for which you are now ready. God is simply around the corner waiting for us, with his gentle smile, for God there is no late in the day. It is always sunrise on our life, and God, like the oak tree says; I've been waiting for you.)
