The Weekly Stuff #461 - Reviewing HBO's The Last of Us

<p>Naughty Dog’s <i>The Last of Us </i>is one of the oldest topics on this podcast – we reviewed the original PS3 game, when it was brand new, 10 years and over 400 episodes ago, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA8S28I_Q9p3a44XluKXZcjwNw4XqovJH">and have followed the series ever since</a> – so it’s probably inevitable we’d cover HBO’s 9-episode TV adaptation starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. What’s not inevitable is what a wonderful show this turned out to be, respecting but also expanding upon the source material to tell the story in a way that stands tall all on its own. It’s inarguably the best live-action adaptation of a video game to date – <a href="https://youtu.be/W37u2GoQ9cQ">not that the competition is particularly thick</a> – and feels like a real inflection point in Hollywood finally taking the medium seriously.
